The Ski Classics Legend from Norway and his chosen one have become husband and wife. It happened on Saturday afternoon.

Long-distance skiing star Andreas Nygaard proposed – and got a YES – on New Year’s Eve a year and a half ago. He did it at the highest point of the Birkebeiner course. Now, he and his fiancée Anna-Elisabeth Liljedal are happily married.

According to Langrenn.com, Nygaard and Liljedal have been a couple for nearly eight years. But it was only a year and a half ago that the long-distance skiing star proposed – and she said yes. It happened on New Year’s Eve 2023.

Now, the two are happily married.

The long-distance star

Andreas Nygaard has won the Birkebeinerrennet five times, Jizerská50 three times, and Vasaloppet twice. But last winter, he fulfilled one of his biggest long-distance dreams: winning Marcialonga.

With the Marcialonga victory, Nygaard has now won all four of the Grand Classics races – Ski Classics’ answer to cycling’s Monuments: Vasaloppet, Birkebeinerrennet, Marcialonga, and Jizerská50 – a total of 11 times. And even though he now says he “can now die in peace,” the 34-year-old has no plans to retire in the foreseeable future.
