Max Novak was the best-performing Swede in the Ski Classics Pro Tour last season. Now, he’s leaving Sweden with the goal of winning Vasaloppet.

Max Novak is one of Sweden’s top long-distance stars in Ski Classics. Last season, he was the highest-ranked Swedish athlete in the overall standings.

For some years, he has been part of the Norwegian Pro Team Team Aker Dæhlie. Now, Novak is making a significant change and leaving Östersund, Sweden, where he has lived for ten years. His new hometown will be Oslo.

“I’m moving to Oslo on September 1. It’s a decision that has gradually formed over the summer. I feel like I want to try something new,” Max Novak told Östersunds-Posten.

Teammates in Oslo

There’s a clear reason why he chose Norway and Oslo. Many of his teammates from Team Aker Dæhlie live and train there.

“Four team members live in Oslo, so I’ll be the fifth. We’ll be able to train together basically anytime. That’s really important for building team cohesion. It’s hard when you’re living in Östersund and the rest of the team trains together every day,” the Pro Team athlete says.

Last season, Novak won the Grönklitt Criterium and stood on the podium in several races. But he has yet to win the most prestigious one: Vasaloppet.

“I’m entering a phase in my career where I need to stay motivated. Vasaloppet is the most important race, and I haven’t won it yet. I think this move will be a boost,” he says.
