After a season that didn’t quite meet expectations, Max Novak is venturing into something new alongside his skiing career. The long-distance star is starting a company aimed at simplifying a daily product.

Max Novak had somewhat of a mid-season but finished strong, securing a third place in the Marcialonga Bodø. Now, he is broadening his career as he, along with two co-founders, launches a new company named Kolsyra.

“As an elite athlete and person, I am allergic to inefficiency and always try to eliminate unnecessary steps. I drink a lot of sparkling water at home and have always found it cumbersome to change the cartridges, which I believe many can relate to,” says Max Novak in a press release.

Aiming to digitize the market

The business idea is to digitize the market for carbon dioxide cartridges through a circular subscription model.

“This idea came about because we ourselves use Sodastream, and there’s always a hassle with changing these cartridges since you have to take them down to the store, and you always forget to do it. It always ends up with you not using it,” Novak tells Langd.se.

Moving back to Östersund

The idea is for the company to be a side project alongside skiing. After what Max describes as a mid-season, he is eager to bounce back next winter.

“Of course, it wasn’t quite what I had hoped for. In hindsight, it will probably serve as a good reminder that the work needs to be done all the time. You can never relax; maybe that was a bit the case this year,” he says, adding:

“Then there was everything that didn’t work with the training as well. I’ve already started planning for next year and how I will step up. So no, I view it positively, and this will just be a mid-season.”

In recent years, he has been part of Team Aker Dæhlie. His contract has expired, but he hopes for a continuation. Last season, he became partners with teammate Mathias Rolid Aas, but it is now confirmed that he will move back to Östersund.

“I will head back to Östersund. This spring, I will mostly be in Stockholm before I start training again,” he concludes.
