Jenny Larsson: Wants to fight for the Yellow bib – Vasaloppet the biggest goal

“I’m really inspired,” says Larsson.

There are very few skiers who make it to victory in Ski Classics. In 2021, Jenny Larsson won Engadin La Diagonela in the colors of Team Ramudden.

A fall a few weeks after her first Ski Classics Pro Tour victory led to the wrist injury that caused her to miss an entire season. Once back, she switched Pro Teams to Norwegian Team Ragde Charge, a team she has represented for the last two seasons.

“I’ve had two very good and nice years in Ragde (Team Ragde Charge). It’s been inspiring, but I just never got the hang of it this past season. The season as a whole was a big disappointment, even though there were glimmers of light,” says Larsson to Langd.se.

What didn’t work?

“Everything felt good in the pre-season, but I got sick when we were at altitude, and then there was a recurrence. Then, there were some competitions where I did well (the top result was fourth place in Orsa Grönklitt), but then I had a problem with a shoulder towards Birkebeinerrennet and had a “clamped” nerve, which meant that I had to step off there. And then, for Reistadløpet, I did not feel healthy. And I’ve been unwell since then. So now it’s starting over from ‘almost zero,’” says Larsson after a strength training session.

This Thursday, she was introduced as a new member of the Lager 157 Ski Team:

“Many factors have weighed in on this decision. It feels very inspiring to join the Lager 157 Ski Team, and I’m really looking forward to testing the team’s approach both at camp and at home,” says Larsson, who, as before, considers Vasaloppet the most important race of the season.

Vasaloppet is also something that her new Pro Team has as the most important race day of the year:

“The goal of the season as a whole is to be involved in the fight for the Yellow bib and podium positions. Top 10 is good in the competition that is right now in Ski Classics, but I aim higher than that. And then Vasaloppet is the big goal for next season as well.”

How will switching teams change your training?

“There will be some changes, but I will not change just for the sake of change. And it’s not some “magic” we are doing. The keys are continuity and staying healthy. However, I will change a little bit how I set up my pace and adjust my overall training approach. Then, there will certainly be some changes in how the camps will look here compared to the camps with Team Ragde Charge. The first camp with the team is at the end of May. I’m really looking forward to that,” says Larsson.
