GRAND FINALE SUMMIT 2 SENJA – MEN
The men’s race started at 8:30 CET, and the pace was fast. With 10km into the race, a solid group of about 20 skiers formed ahead of the day’s Sprint.
At the Sprint checkpoint of the day at Johannesmyra, 11.1km into the race, Thomas Joly, Team Ramudden, crossed the sprint line first, followed by Truls Gisselman, Team Ramudden, and Alfred Buskqvist, also from Team Ramudden.
After the Sprint and about 40km to go, a 15-skier group was strong at the front, with Torleif Syrstad, Team Engcon, setting a solid pace.
Over the kilometers, the pace was controlled in the front group, with several skiers sharing some work.
At the 32.1km mark in Skihytta, the leading group showed a controlled pace, with Magnus Vesterheim, Team Aker Dæhlie, crossing the checkpoint first, followed by Morten Eide Pedersen, Team Eksjöhus, and Axel Jutterström, Team Eksjöhus, with 18 skiers crossing the line within 7.7 seconds. The first chaser, Kasper Stadaas, Team Ragde Charge, crossed the checkpoint 39.9 seconds back, and the first chasing group was already over 54 seconds behind.
Heading to the only Climb checkpoint of the day and the final Iconic Climb for Season XVI, Syrstad was on the offensive, with the skiers constantly working to stretch the leading group.
At the 10km to go mark, the real climb to Magdaskaret started, and soon the steep gradient kicked in, Syrstad and Bruvoll increased the pace and split the field.
Ole Jørgen Bruvoll showed his strength a few kilometers up the hill, increased the pace, and got a small gap. With 8km to go, the gap was already 8 seconds to the chasers and rising.
At the Magdaskaret Climb checkpoint, 54.8km into the race, Ole Jørgen Bruvoll, Team Engcon, crossed first, followed by Axel Jutterström, Team Eksjöhus, 23.4 seconds back, and Torleif Syrstad, Team Engcon, 24.5 seconds behind.
Jørgen Bruvoll had a comfortable margin over the chasers after the Iconic Climb and down to the finish line.
In the end, the gap over the chasers proved enough, and Ole Jørgen Bruvoll, Team Engcon, won Summit 2 Senja, the 14th stage of Ski Classics Season XVI, in a total time of 2:36:35.9.
Second place went to Johan Hoel, Team Ragde Charge, 4.4 seconds back. After another solid performance, Eirik Sverdrup Augdal, Team Eksjöhus, finished in the third position, 4.6 seconds behind the winner.
