Einar Hedegart announced on Tuesday that he would focus on traditional cross-country skiing this coming winter. After a few days of discussions with the Biathlon Association, he has now changed his mind, opting to pursue biathlon.

Einar Hedegart announced on Tuesday that he would focus on traditional cross-country skiing. This decision came after he received a spot on the Norwegian development team for biathlon, rather than the national team.

Following requests from several experts urging the Norwegian Biathlon Association to reconsider Hedegart’s situation, a turnaround has occurred.

“Many have reached out to us to express their opinions. We respect that, and it’s natural when it comes to prominent athletes. We have had a good and constructive dialogue with Einar throughout this process, and the clarifications made now fall within the framework we as an Association must operate under. We have not made changes we are uncomfortable with, but have found solutions that we believe are beneficial for both Einar and the team as a whole,” says Emilie Nordskar, Secretary General of the Norwegian Biathlon Association, in a press release.

A solution found

After a few days of reflection, the love for biathlon has prevailed.

“When I had the chance to think things through and we clarified the key aspects of my setup, it felt right to pursue my dream of focusing on biathlon. I feel that I have now received an offer that provides what I need to continue developing,” says Einar Hedegart in a press release.

A solution has now been found that makes Einar Hedegart confident in his decision.

“It felt a bit like breaking up on Tuesday, but I quickly realized that it was more about what needed to be in place for me rather than giving up entirely. When we established good solutions, especially regarding the coaching team with Anders Øverby, and an elite-level training setup, it became clear to me that this is a commitment I believe in,” says Hedegart.

“Very good”

The fact that a solution has been found that works for both parties is welcomed by the sports director of the Norwegian Biathlon Federation.

“Einar is an athlete with a level of skill that we very much want to keep moving forward with. At the same time, it has been important for us to be clear about what we can offer. That we have now found a solution that both parties are comfortable with is simply very good,” says Lars Mæland, Sports Director of the Norwegian Biathlon Association.
