Last year, Alvar Myhlback shone against Norwegian national team stars. This Friday, he is chasing a hat trick at the Trysil Sprint – but this time, he faces the strongest field ever.

Alvar Myhlback dominated the Norwegian World Cup stars from prologue to final at last year’s Trysil Sprint.

“Well, that wasn’t a surprise,” the Swedish junior star told Langrenn.com after his second consecutive victory in the prestigious roller ski race.

This Friday evening, the Trysil Sprint takes place in the heart of the town – featuring the most star-studded lineup ever and free admission for the audience.

Facing Hedegart and the best in the World

Myhlback returns to defend his title and aims for a hat trick at the Trysil Sprint. However, this year, Norway is fielding an even stronger team.

From Norway comes the winter’s big sensation, Einar Hedegart, who defeated the entire World Cup elite in his summer debut during Blink two years ago. Everyone knows what happened after that. Two Olympic golds and a bronze later, the 25-year-old is now part of the biathlon national team.

Additionally, winter’s breakout star Lars Heggen will compete, along with national team veterans Harald Østberg Amundsen, Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget, and Even Northug.

Simen Hegstad Krüger will also participate, who was dropped from the national team in August but is now training privately for the World Championships in Falun this winter

Kristian Kollerud is also making waves. The 21-year-old from Team Konnerud became the talk of the town when he climbed straight onto the podium in his World Cup debut in Drammen last March.

“I can’t even understand it myself. It’s insane,” Kollerud said after his achievement.

The strongest field ever

The Trysil Sprint has been held for over 20 years and is, alongside the Blink Festival and Toppidrettsveka, one of the most star-studded roller ski competitions on the calendar.

“We have become an institution and a summer tradition,” says the founder of the Trysil Sprint, Svein Skarpmo, to Langrenn.com, and there’s no doubt why.

“It’s compact and quick. We start at seven and are done in an hour.”

He expects thousands of spectators and a full VIP tent in Innbygda on Friday evening.

“We’ve probably never had a stronger field than this year,” Skarpmo tells Langrenn.com.

On the women’s side, it was actually Alvar Myhlback’s younger sister, Vera, who won last year. The 16-year-old was dominant in the youth sprint, which took place between the B-final and A-final for the men.

Format

The Coop Trysil Roller Ski Sprint consists of three initial heats with five competitors in each heat. The two best from each heat advance to the A-final, while the other three go to the B-final. The winner of the B-final also qualifies for the A-final.

The length of the course is 600 meters. In the initial heats and B-final, competitors complete four laps, while the A-final runs over six laps. Between the B and A finals, a youth sprint for girls and boys is also held.
