Maja Dahlqvist won both gold and silver at the Olympics in Milano-Cortina. She now reveals that she will not be moving back to Falun, where the World Championships will take place next winter.

Ahead of the World Championships in Trondheim, Maja Dahlqvist and her partner Kevin Bolger relocated to Trondheim to ensure optimal preparation for the event. At that time, the sprint star hinted that a move back to Falun could be on the horizon before the World Championships.

Staying in Norway

The couple has now decided to remain in Trondheim for another year.

“A move requires a lot of energy, and this spring I haven’t had the time or energy for that. Even though I considered moving back at the end of summer or in the fall, it’s not feasible given all the training I need to fit in at the same time. Plus, I really enjoy my time in Trondheim. There’s a great training environment and a fantastic variety in training options. That contributes to our decision to stay,” Maja Dahlqvist told Falu-Kuriren.

Prioritizing recovery

Dahlqvist returned from the Olympics with a gold and a silver medal. The 32-year-old believes that as she ages, more recovery time is necessary in her training plan.

“The older you get, the more recovery you need. I think I have a lot of training from previous years to draw on. I don’t believe that the volume of training I will do in the future will make me better.”

Uncertain about career end

Several Swedish stars have previously mentioned that they see an end to their careers after the World Championships in Falun in 2027.

“I hope to feel ready to conclude my career after the World Championships in Falun and think it’s a good time to retire next spring. But I believe it’s quite difficult to predict how I will feel at that moment. If I feel in my whole body that I want to ski for another year, I will do it. I haven’t signed any contract with myself that I must stop. That’s not the case,” she says and continues:

“But I will be turning 33 next year, and it feels like the World Championships in Falun and the World Cup finale in Ulricehamn would be a nice way to end my career. It’s a bit exciting that something new is coming, but also a little scary to leave behind what I’ve done my whole adult life.”
