The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina begin in a few weeks, and two additional cross-country skiers have been named to the Swedish Olympic Team.

Already in May, the first Swedish cross-country skiers received Olympic tickets: Ebba Andersson, Frida Karlsson, Jonna Sundling, William Poromaa, and Edvin Anger. In December, seven other athletes were confirmed for the Winter Games. Now, two additional traditional cross-country skiers have been confirmed.

Milano Cortina, in Italy, will host the next Winter Olympics. The Opening Ceremony will be held on February 6, 2026, and there will be 12 cross-country skiing competitions over 10 days, culminating in the women’s 50km mass start in classic technique on February 22, 2026.

According to a press release from the Swedish Ski Association, the Swedish Olympic Committee has announced two new cross-country skiers for the Swedish Olympic squad this Friday, receiving the go-ahead to compete in Milano-Cortina 2026. Two men were named for the cross-country skiing team, out of those already selected.

Press Release

The Swedish Olympic Committee has given the green light to nine new Olympians in five winter sports. Truls Gisselman and Gustaf Berglund will now take their places in the cross-country squad and prepare to compete in Italy in February.

Those who received the go-ahead on Friday are alpine skiers Cornelia Öhlund and Estelle Alphand, cross-country skiers Truls Gisselman and Gustaf Berglund, moguls Rasmus Stegfeldt and Robin Olgård, ski cross skier Linnea Mobärg and ice dance couple Nikolaj Majorov and Milla Ruud Reitan.

This means Olympic debuts for both 24-year-old Truls Gisselman (Rehns BK) and 27-year-old Gustaf Berglund (IFK Mora SK).

“It feels good to have received the go-ahead for these two as well. Gustaf Berglund was eighth in the 50km at the World Championships last year despite coming in as a reserve, and during the first weekends of the World Cup this season, he has proven that he is a reliable skier that we need in the Olympics,” says national team manager Anders Byström.

Gustaf Berglund and Truls Gisselman both participated in the Tour de Ski. Gisselman came 19th overall. He was also 15th in the pursuit and 18th in the 10-kilometer classic style. Gisselman is selected as a relay skier.

– Truls Gisselman was on the medal team in the relay at the World Championships last year. He has had a tough start to the season, but in the Tour de Ski, he started to show what we know is in him, says Anders Byström.

Gustaf Berglund and Truls Gisselman will take their places in the Olympic squad along with men’s skiers such as Edvin Anger, William Poromaa, Alvar Myhlback, and Anton Grahn.

“We now have two places left to fill in the men’s team. The next selection will take place on January 20, according to SOC’s sports director, Fredrik Joulamo.
