According to a press release from the Swedish Ski Association, the Swedish Olympic Committee has announced seven new cross-country skiers for the Swedish Olympic squad this Tuesday, receiving the go-ahead to compete in Milano-Cortina 2026. Five women and two men were named for the cross-country skiing team, out of those already selected.
On the women’s side, all have been on the podium in the World Cup this year with Johanna Hagström (winner in sprint), Linn Svahn (third in sprint), Moa Ilar (two second places, and one third place in distance), Maja Dahlqvist (winner in sprint relay, third in sprint) and Emma Ribom (second in sprint) having a total of eight podium places in the World Cup. With Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson, and Jonna Sundling already selected, the strong Swedish women’s team for the Olympics is already complete.
“Sweden’s women’s cross-country skiers are the best in the world. With an early selection, all eight can now prepare in the way they want for the Olympics,” says SOK’s sports director Fredrik Joulamo.
On the men’s side, SOK gave the go-ahead to Alvar Myhlback and Anton Grahn on Tuesday. Myhlback was on the podium for the first time in the World Cup at the sprint in Trondheim. Grahn reached the semis and finished seventh in the same competition.
World Cup medalists William Poromaa and Edvin Anger have already received their Olympic tickets. At least three more cross-country men will be selected during January.
“We can get a maximum of four more places on the men’s side, it depends on other nations and skaters that we cannot influence,” says SOK’s sports director, Fredrik Joulamo.
The cross-country squad will probably be completed next time on January 9th, after the Tour de Ski.
