Klarälvsloppet takes place in the scenic region of Värmland in Sweden tomorrow, Sunday, October 1. The racecourse covers 90 kilometers, starting in Uddeholm and finishing in Karlstad. The route follows the Klarälven River and passes through the picturesque countryside.

Klarälvsloppet is a challenging roller skiing event and a celebration of skiing in the beautiful Swedish landscape. It provides an opportunity for long-distance skiers to test their skills, endurance, and speed in a competitive setting while enjoying the natural beauty of Värmland. The race also serves as a test for Pro Team athletes to check their shape before the winter season begins.

Several athletes are in good shape after summer training. In this article, ProXCskiing.com analyzes the strongest contenders to win Sweden’s 90-kilometer roller ski race.

Potential winners on the men’s side

“I’d be surprised if Northug isn’t in contention for the victory on Sunday,” that’s how Andreas Nygaard, Team Ragde Charge, described his thoughts on the race. Indeed, Petter Northug has been showing an impressive performance, and he might be getting his best shape back.

With a 3rd place at Värnamorullen this summer, the Norwegian might be one of the candidates for the win. Moreover, Northug finished third at the Blink Classics and third at Trysilsprinten, the day before Alliansloppet in August.

But also, Andreas Nygaard, who has been one of the strongest long-distance skiers of the last few years, is a strong candidate for the win.

Nygaard stated in an interview: “It’s the most important rollers ki race we do (…) people are in good shape, and many are looking for answers through this race. On Sunday, we’ll see who will do well this winter.”

Nygaard doesn’t hide his ambitions: “I’ll be disappointed if I’m not one of those fighting for the podium here on Sunday.”

There are also other strong contenders. Petter Stakston, Team Aker Dæhlie, won last year’s Klarälvsloppet edition and is in great shape, finishing Alliansloppet in the 2nd position. Moreover, he has shown that these longer distances suit him well, with the victory last year and his 4th place at Vasaloppet.

Another possible winner is Emil Persson, Lager 157 Ski Team, who won the last Ski Classics season overall and just won Värnamorullen. Despite not being in his best shape during Alliansloppet, the Swedish Pro Team athlete will indeed show his opponents that he is in top form.

Finally, Kasper Staadas, Team Ragde Charge, is also among the favorites. The Norwegian skier who finished 3rd at Vasaloppet last year is in good shape, with 6th place at Alliansloppet. It will be interesting to see how Kasper can perform, given his huge development as a long-distance skier, especially during the last two seasons.

Potential winner on the women’s side

Like on the men’s side, the women’s field will be packed with potential winners. To start, Ida Dahl, Team Engcon, is undeniably one of the strongest contenders for the victory. The Swedish Pro Team athlete, overall Ski Classics champion last season, will be at the starting line, and the 90 kilometers might be a distance that suits Ida’s capabilities.

Anikken Gjerde Alnæs, Team Ragde Charge, may also be able to fight for the podium and be one of the strongest contenders for the victory. Her development over the last two seasons has been massive, and she might be ready to fight for more wins in the long-distance circuit. Furthermore, Anikken finished 2nd place at Alliansloppet, only behind Astrid Øyre Slind, Team Aker Dæhlie.

Anikken’s teammate, Jenny Larsson, is also a strong candidate for the win. The Swedish Pro Team athlete returned last season after recovering from an injury, showing everybody how strong she is. Larsson even managed to reach the podium at Marcialonga. Now that she is recovered and used to top-level racing again, Jenny might be fighting for victories next season and perform well tomorrow.

Finally, Karolina Hedenström, Lager 157 Ski Team, has had a good winter season and an impressive 3rd place at Värnamorullen. The young Swedish skier might surprise her competitors with the capacity to keep up with them until the finish.

As we eagerly await the race tomorrow, Klarälvsloppet will be a thrilling showcase of talent and determination in the enchanting Swedish countryside. The race will determine the winners and set the stage for an exciting Ski Classics winter season.
