Astrid Øyre Slind, Team Koteng Eidissen, took her first career victory in the Visma Ski Classics series in Ylläs-Levi in 2018. She managed to win the race again the following year. Because of the pandemic, she remains the reigning winner and one of Saturday’s top favorites.

Øyre Slind has managed to win three Pro Tour events during this season and the Individual Prologue that opened the season. Despite promising results, the victory in the overall race has gone sideways, as she missed three races at the beginning of the season due to a corona infection.

“Winning the overall competition has been my goal for five seasons. When three races are missed, it is obvious that the points will not be enough to win the overall race. Must stay healthy next season. Then there is a chance of an overall win,” says Øyre Slind.

Astrid managed to win both Vasaloppet and Birkebeinerrennet – two of the series’ Grand Classics. Of these two, Øyre Slind highlights the Birkebeinerrennet win slightly ahead.

“Vasaloppet is the biggest event, but winning Birkebeinerrennet with the presence of Therese Johaug will make the race my highlight of the season.”

Øyre Slind says Reistadløpet was a tough race last weekend. The challenging course, the harsh weather, and skiing with kick wax caused cramps, and recovery is still underway. However, Øyre Slind assures that there is still enough power for Ylläs-Levi.

“I’m looking forward to a tough race. The course suits me well. Of course, I hope to win the competition.”
