The 31-year-old Italian veteran Federico Pellegrino is debating whether to retire from World Cup-level racing at the end of the 2022 season.

Federico Pellegrino has been racing at the World Cup-level since 2010. Now, the Italian veteran could end his career at the end of winter.

Pellegrino, who just returned from the 2022 Olympics with two silver medals, has not yet decided on his future. The which worries the national press a lot.

“Today, I ended my 13th season on the FIS cross-country World Cup. It was a season short of (World Cup) podiums, but full of races and experiences that allowed me to get know my own limits even better, to figure out what I need to overcome and the opportunities for improvement I need to seek. But above all, they led me to achieve the most difficult goal of my career: the medal in Beijing,” Pellegrino said in a long post on Instagram.

Pellegrino was the best sprinter at the World Cup level in 2016 and 2021. At 31, the cross-country skier from Aosta, Italy, posts this cryptic message on the continuation and end of his career:

“My future will certainly also depend on the competitive world of cross-country skiing which, since I’m in it, suffer regardless of the results. Until there is a common intention to get to the root of the problems, the solutions can only continue to be temporary and like all magic wands passed here, in a few months they will lose their magic.”
