Snow Australia has named its national cross-country skiing teams for the 2026/2027 season, with familiar names returning to the World Cup team and several newcomers in the Continental Cup, U23, and Junior squads.

According to a press release published by Snow Australia on November 6, 2026, athletes have been selected across four tiers: World Cup, Continental Cup, U23, and Junior.

Hugo Hinckfuss, Seve de Campo, and Lars Young Vik make up the men’s side of the World Cup team, while Rosie Fordham, Phoebe Cridland, and Ellen Søhol Lie make up the women’s side. All six return from last season, which Snow Australia described as history-making, with the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics as its highlight.

The main target for the senior group is the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun, Sweden, from February 22 to March 7, 2027. Before that, the World Cup season opens in Ruka, Finland, on November 27.

Fordham, a member of what Snow Australia called the country’s first-ever women’s Olympic cross-country relay team, has already started skiing in Europe.

“We just got on snow here in Norway and that’s gotten me really excited to get the racing season started,” she said in the press release.

“The big goal is the World Champs in Falun, but I’m also excited to do the whole World Cup season. I think it’ll be a good opportunity to really test myself all season long.”

Young Vik said the team’s recent results have given the group belief going into the winter.

“The results show that we’ve taken huge steps as a team over the past seasons, delivering best ever Aussie results and all new personal bests,” he said.

“It has shown us that we’re on the right path and we will bring that confidence into the season, with the World Championships in Falun as the main goal for many of us.”

Familiar names missing

Two athletes who started last season’s World Cup opener in Ruka for Australia are not on this year’s list. Four-time Olympian Phil Bellingham has retired. Tuva Bygrave, who raced at the 2025 World Championships and on the World Cup, is taking a season away from FIS-level racing.

Hannah Price, who competed at the 2025 World U23 Championships and the World University Games, is also stepping back from international racing. Harri Silvester, a member of the 2026 junior team who raced at the World Junior Championships earlier this year, is taking a break from competition as well.

A larger Continental Cup group

The Continental Cup team has grown this season. Fedele de Campo and Bentley Walker-Broose return, and Snow Australia says both will again get opportunities on the World Cup after racing there last winter. They are joined by Maddie Hooker, Isabella Moon, Noah Bradford, and Vincent de Souza.

Hooker is also named to the U23 team, which she leads together with Jayden Spring. Samuel Johnson, Clancy Harvey, and Ava McCann move up from the junior ranks to complete the group.

Spring is aiming for two championship events this winter.

“I’m super grateful and proud to have been selected to represent my country on the international racing circuit again,” he said.

“I’m particularly looking forward to race at the World U23’s in Estonia and to make my World Championship debut in Falun in Sweden.”

The FIS Nordic Junior and U23 World Championships will be held in Otepää, Estonia, from January 18 to 24, 2027.

Three junior debutants

Rosie Franzke and Satara Moon return to the junior team, while Thea Harvey, Ben Wichgers, and Ethan Zhang are selected for the national junior team for the first time.

“Being selected again for the Australian Cross Country Junior national team truly means a lot to me,” Moon said.

“It shows that my hard work and dedication have been paying off. I am super excited to represent Australia at the Junior World Championships in Estonia but mostly overall I am super excited just to be back on snow doing what I love most.”

Head coach Alexei Sotskov set a clear target for the season.

“Our ambition is clear: to demonstrate to the international cross-country skiing community that Australia is ready to compete for leading positions at the highest level of the sport,” he said.

“We believe in our athletes, the work we have put in, and the direction in which the team is moving.”
