The Finnish Ski Association has named its national cross-country skiing team for the 2026/2027 season.

According to a press release from the Finnish Ski Association, twenty traditional cross-country skiers (eight women and twelve men) were selected for the A-National Team for the upcoming season.

The press release states that: “The national cross-country skiing program for the upcoming season will be driven forward with the ‘High Performance Team’ concept, where the continuous development of the athletes and the entire system is key. New head coach Joakim Abrahamsson emphasizes raising the standards at all levels.”

“We have a clear ambition to continuously raise our standards – not only in terms of results, but also in how we work, lead and develop our operating environment. It is crucial to be able to combine immediate results with long-term development work. We want to be competitive in the moment and at the same time build a strong foundation for future success,” Abrahamsson says.

“The structure of the national team combines internationally experienced and renowned athletes with newer faces who have taken significant development steps and now get the opportunity to continue their development in the national team environment. The short-term goals are the World Cup, Tour de Ski, and the Falun World Championships next season, while the longer-term goals include the Lahti World Championships in 2029 and the 2030 Olympics. An essential part of long-term development is the development of domestic training.”

“We see huge potential in developing our domestic operations in close cooperation with training centers. This ensures continuity and high quality for athletes in their daily training,” Abrahamsson explains.
