In 2015, Martin Johnsrud Sundby was the happiest man in the world. Now it is over.

Martin Johnsrud Sundby and Marieke Heggeland met when they were just 20 and 19 years old. Ten years later, they got married.

“I have never been as happy for an entire weekend and an entire day as I am now. I still find it shocking that Marieke actually wants to marry me. Today I am the happiest man in the world!”

That is what the ski star said after the dream wedding in Dubrovnik in 2015.

A couple for over 20 years

The two met in 2005, through the ski star’s brother Sondre Sundby. In 2014, he proposed to Marieke during a jog in Nordmarka.

“We were out jogging together in Nordmarka in Oslo, and I had decided to propose a few weeks earlier. When we reached beautiful Vettakollen, not far from where we live, I surprised Marieke by asking if she wanted to marry me. I felt it was the right time and place,” he told Se og Hør in 2014.

Now it is over between Martin Johnsrud Sundby (42) and half-Dutch Marieke Heggeland (40). The couple has three children.

It was Se og Hør that first reported the news. Neither Martin Johnsrud Sundby nor Marieke Heggeland wishes to comment on the matter.
