Davos opens snowfarming trail and kicks off the cross-country skiing season
Cross-country skiers can once again click into their bindings in Davos. On Friday, October 30, 2026, the Swiss resort opened its snowfarming trail, a 4km loop made from snow that has been stored through the summer.
Snow saved from last winter
The trail sits on Flüelastrasse, just above Färichpark, on the road toward the Flüela Pass. Since last winter, around 20,000 cubic meters of snow have been stored there under a layer of sawdust. According to Destination Davos Klosters, the insulation preserves roughly 70 to 80 percent of the snow’s volume, which has now been spread out and groomed into a trail.
Snowfarming lets Davos open in late October, whatever the weather does in autumn. The resort first tried the method more than 15 years ago, and it has since become a fixture of its season.

Room for both elite and recreational skiers
Both teams and individual skiers can train on the loop, which is shared by competitive athletes and recreational skiers. To keep everyone safe, the day is divided into time slots for different performance groups, and skiers who want to train at a competitive level need to register online in advance.
Recreational skiers can get on the snow with a day pass for CHF 10, while season passes are also available. Competitive athletes receive a colored bib according to their performance level. Passes can be bought online or on site, and all prices, the route map, and the time slot schedule are available on the Davos website.
