Swedish Skiers Are Critical About The Skis After The Relay

Despite the bronze medal for the Swedish women’s team, the skis were a talking point after today’s relay.

Despite the bronze medal for the Swedish women’s team, the skis were a talking point after today’s relay.

After today’s relay, which ended with a bronze medal for Sweden, several Swedish women were disappointed with the skis. Frida Karlsson, who skied the third leg for Sweden, wanted more.

“I don’t feel I had matching skis today,” says Frida Karlsson.

She mentions when Ingvild Flugstad Østberg, from Norway, got a gap with about one and a half kilometers left.

“I still think it is such a distance that I should keep up. I feel that she had very good skis today,” says Frida Karlsson.

Ebba Andersson agrees that the skis could have been better in today’s race. But understands that it has been challenging to make good classic skis for today’s race.

“I tried to handle the skis I have today as well as I could, but it’s a challenge, especially on the classic parts. We had around zero today and glazed tracks. So, it was difficult for anyone who skied classic today to feel that the skis were completely optimal.”

Waxing manager Petter Myhlback disagrees that the skis were bad for the women.

“I think the skis have been absolutely as good as we have been able to deliver today. But that other nations may have had better,” says Petter Myhlback after the race.

Why is it that you have a point and the skiers another?

“After all, I haven’t been out skiing five kilometers and full of adrenaline. I would like to meet the skiers and talk about how they have experienced it. It gets a bit twisted when you just come in and have to comment and haven’t met the people it concerns.”

Myhlback is not worried about the material for the men’s relay.

“We start from scratch tomorrow,” he says.

Tomorrow, it’s time for the men’s relay, starting at 12:30 CET.
