Swedish national team for the Davos World Cup
The cross-country skiing World Cup season 2025/2026 moves to Davos this week, and the Swedish national team for the third stage of the season has now been announced.
Davos, Switzerland, will host the third World Cup weekend from Friday, December 12, to Sunday, December 14, 2025. The program opens with a freestyle team sprint on Friday, continues with a freestyle sprint on Saturday, and concludes with a 10km interval-start freestyle race on Sunday.
In a press release, the Swedish Ski Association confirmed the national team selection for Davos.
“The Swedish squad is selected and ready for tough competitions at altitude.
“In the sprint disciplines, team sprint and sprint skate, we have good memories from Davos. Last year, Jonna Sundling won the sprint, and Jonna, together with Emma Ribom, also took home the team sprint, where we also had Johan Häggström and Edvin Anger on the podium for the men,” says national team manager Anders Byström.
Davos also promises excitement in the individual sprint, where the Swedish women’s team offers tough competition – with five women already on the World Cup podium in sprint this year. On the men’s side, several active athletes are chasing Olympic spots, including Marcus Grate back in the squad, as well as Emil Danielsson, Anton Grahn, and George Ersson.
“This weekend’s competitions will of course be a little extra nerve-wracking as there are Olympic qualifiers in the mix, and the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK) will present Olympic spots next week,” says Anders Byström.
Sunday offers distance and a 10-kilometer interval start, where, among others, Moa Ilar is chasing new podium places and a coveted spot in the Olympic squad, after great successes in both Ruka and Trondheim. Moa Lundgren and Elina Rönnlund are also back in the World Cup and ready to start this weekend’s competitions.
At the same time as the World Cup is being decided in Davos, the Scandinavian Cup is taking place in Östersund, meaning several active people chasing places for the Tour de Ski are prioritizing the Scandinavian Cup over Davos this coming weekend.
Ebba Andersson also plans to compete on her home turf in Östersund.
“As planned, some of the Olympic-ready skiers are choosing to skip Davos. It has been part of their plan not to go up to altitude now, but instead to get a good training period before the Tour de Ski. At the same time, skiers who could have participated in the Davos competitions have chosen instead to take the chance to qualify for the Tour de Ski via the Scandinavian Cup,” says Anders Byström.
Alvar Myhlback is competing in the premiere of Ski Classics in Bad Gastein and is therefore skipping Davos.”
