Stalker broke restraining order: “I felt unsafe even at home”
Frida Karlsson has once again been subjected to stalking. The man is now charged again for violating the restraining order multiple times. He denies any wrongdoing.
Last spring, the then 65-year-old man was sentenced to conditional imprisonment and fined 40,000 Swedish kronor for illegal surveillance and stalking of Frida Karlsson. He was also issued a restraining order.
However, this did not stop the man from contacting the ski star. Just a few months later, in September of last year, he allegedly began reaching out to Karlsson again.
The contact reportedly occurred via phone, SMS, and Instagram. The man also attempted to contact Frida Karlsson’s mother.
After repeated violations of the restraining order throughout the fall of 2025, the man is now charged again.
“We felt it was important to report the man when it happened again,’ says Mia Karlsson, the mother of the Swedish ski star, to Swedish media.
“He does not understand that he has a restraining order and what it entails,” she adds.

Denies any wrongdoing
In police interrogations, the man denies having done anything wrong.
“I know that I did not know I had a restraining order; I tried to contact the police and the court, so I had to resort to my own means. But I do not believe I have violated the restraining order,” the man stated during the interrogation.
Saved over 7,000 photos
The man in his mid-60s was convicted in the spring of 2025 for illegal stalking of Frida Karlsson.
He has followed Karlsson on multiple occasions, approached her at home, during training, and at competitions. He has also sent her over 200 text messages and saved over 7,300 photos of Karlsson on his phone, even suggesting that they should have children together.
During the trial, Karlsson mentioned that she had become more cautious about what she shared on social media and that she was looking for a new place to live.
“After that, I felt very unsafe. Even at home, I felt unsafe. I am generally a quite trusting person, but after this, I started looking over my shoulder,” Frida Karlsson said in court last year.

Extremely demanding process
A new full round in court is expected later this fall.
“Yes, it will be a full process again,” confirms Mia Karlsson.
This comes in addition to the aftermath of the verdict from 2025, which is not yet resolved. Both the prosecution and the man’s lawyer appealed the verdict from the district court to the court of appeal. That appeal has yet to be processed, and Mia Karlsson does not know when it will happen.
Neither Frida nor Mia Karlsson wished to appeal.
“No, we did not want to. But the prosecution and the man did.”
How is Frida coping with this?
“I think she has handled it well. She is mostly afraid of the process, as our legal process is extremely demanding to manage.”
Completely different perspectives
Karlsson’s lawyer, Edlund Nilsson, believed the sentence was too lenient and sought a prison sentence.
The man initially appealed the verdict, demanding acquittal.
“My client believes he has not committed any offense. He acknowledges his actions but does not consider them a violation of the law. I was satisfied that he avoided prison, but he wants to go even further,” said the man’s defender, Thomas Bodström, to Expressen after the verdict was announced last year.
The man was convicted in the spring of 2025 for a series of violations against Karlsson over an extended period:
- The stalker had saved 7,322 photos of Karlsson on his phone.
- During the period, the man sent over 200 SMS messages, some of them at night, and called Karlsson 207 times. She did not respond to any. He also sent her a four-page letter.
- He was issued a restraining order in November 2024, but allegedly violated it repeatedly.
- The accused showed up at Karlsson’s training in Sollefteå last summer and outside her home in Östersund. He also attempted to contact her at ski races.
- The man also purchased a round-trip ticket to Tenerife, Spain, where Karlsson was on an extended training camp in the fall of 2024. However, he was not on board when the plane took off.
