Alvar Myhlback made history by becoming the youngest ever to win the Vasaloppet. After his victory, several Swedish national team athletes expressed their hope that he will dedicate himself more to traditional cross-country skiing in the future.

“Extremely Strong in That Aspect”

After Myhlback’s win, William Poromaa said to Langd.se that he hopes Myhlback will focus more on traditional cross-country skiing.

“It’s incredibly impressive. He has already shown his skills in previous Vasaloppet races, like last year when he finished third. Now, he managed to win, and it’s insane. I’ve done some double-poling sessions with him, and he’s extremely strong in that aspect. As a national team skier, I have to say I hope he moves more towards traditional skiing. It would be great and much needed. He is really needed. But whatever he chooses, he is incredibly strong.”

Poromaa added:

“He has put more time into this than most of us. He is really good at it.”

National Team Veteran Impressed

Calle Halfvarsson, from Sågmyra – not far from Bjursås, where Alvar grew up – was also impressed by the Vasaloppet victory.

“I think it’s fantastic, what he’s done. He’s the youngest ever to win by a clear margin. It’s really cool. And I’m from the same area.”
