Former Swedish national team skier and roller ski star Linn Sömskar is returning to the elite skiing environment—this time behind the scenes. The Swedish Ski Association has announced that Sömskar will join the cross-country national team’s waxing crew as a test skier for the upcoming winter season.

The move comes less than a year after Sömskar ended her competitive career in the autumn of 2024. Known as Sweden’s most successful roller skier ever, she claimed an impressive 17 World Championship podiums, including 13 gold medals, while also enjoying a long World Cup career from 2010 to 2023. Her best international results on snow include team sprint podiums in Liberec 2013 and Dresden 2020.

According to national team waxing manager Anders Svanebo, Sömskar’s experience and professionalism will be a valuable addition to the team.

“Linn’s skiing capacity, professional approach, and recently concluded elite career will strengthen us for the upcoming season and contribute to our long-term development,” says Svanebo in a press release.

Sömskar will immediately join the team and take part in the snow camp in Vålådalen, scheduled from October 28 to November 7.

“It feels great and exciting to be part of the team this winter,” Sömskar says. “It feels good to give back to the sport that I have been involved in for most of my life, and I hope that I can be part of contributing to more Swedish successes.”

The appointment marks an interesting transition for Sömskar—from competing at the highest level to supporting Sweden’s waxing and testing operations in pursuit of top results on the World Cup and championship stages.
