Cross-country skiing star Klæbo dominated the Olympics and World Championships. Now he faces a new arena.

Johannes Høsflot Klæbo is already a legend in cross-country skiing before turning 30. Recently, he received the prestigious Marca award for his Olympic achievements last winter, where he claimed six gold medals out of six possible.

Important season goal

Now the 29-year-old Norwegian is set to try his hand at a new arena. On Saturday, Klæbo will participate in L’Etape du Tour in his hometown of Trondheim.

“This is my next big goal. After the ski season, this is what matters,” Klæbo stated on social media.

Klæbo has long been interested in cycling and has had a formal collaboration with the Norwegian professional team Uno-X for several years.

During a live broadcast of the Tour de France last summer, the team manager of the Norwegian cycling team, Thor Hushovd, revealed that it is not out of the question for Klæbo to join the Uno-X team.

Meeting national teammates

Klæbo will not be the only skier attempting cycling at L’Etape du Tour in Trondheim.

Also participating will be Klæbo’s former national teammate Iver Tildheim and his cycling team Team Fleischer Finans.

After the 25-year-old from Rustad was dropped from the national team in April, he has started prioritizing cycling. In his first race at the Norwegian national cup level, he immediately reached the podium. Last weekend, he secured his first victory with Team Fleischer Finans. After three weekends of racing, Tildheim Andersen has a first place, a second place, and two third places – including one in the national cup.

Making history

On Saturday at L’Etape du Tour, Klæbo will also be part of cycling history.

The 130-kilometer race is the only one in Norway that is part of the L’Etape du Tour Series, marking the first time Norway hosts a L’Etape du Tour event.

L’Etape du Tour de France was first held in 1993, allowing amateurs to participate in one of the stages of the famous three-week race. Each year, the event attracts over 16,000 participants. The concept has since expanded to races around the world.

The race series is one of the most prestigious for amateurs.

Le Tour de France organizes the races, which follow the same format as the professional events: closed roads, routes designed by Tour de France experts, professional timing, official jersey ceremonies, and a race village with programs for both participants and spectators.

L’Etape du Tour Trondheim takes place on Saturday, June 13, starting and finishing in downtown Trondheim. In addition to the 130-kilometer route, there will be a shorter distance of 75 kilometers, a social ride, and Mini L’Etape.
