The historic Olympic achievement could earn Klæbo one of the most prestigious sports awards in the U.S. – see who he is up against.

The 29-year-old has never received the top award at the Norwegian Sports Gala, but abroad, prestigious accolades are pouring in for the Norwegian skiing star. Now, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo has been nominated for yet another award.

The Norwegian is one of four nominees for the “Best Record-Breaking Performance” for his Olympic achievement in Italy, where he won six gold medals out of six possible, becoming the first cross-country skier in history to do so. Last year, he also made history by winning six golds out of six at the World Championships in Trondheim.

The other nominees include NFL player Myles Garrett, softball player Megan Grant, and marathon star Sabastian Sawe. They have also set records in their respective sports. Running star Sawe became the first person in history to run a marathon in under two hours in April, clocking an astonishing 1:59:30 in London.

Prestigious award

It is the TV channel ESPN that has nominated Klæbo for this esteemed award, which will be presented at the ESPY Awards in July.

The ESPY Awards have been awarded since 1993 and recognize both individual and team achievements over the years. The gala will be broadcast live by ABC.

Olympics spark award surge

Interest in the Norwegian cross-country skiing star has skyrocketed, especially following last winter’s Olympics.

Recently, the Norwegian skiing star was featured on Time Magazine’s list of the world’s most influential athletes, alongside Erling Braut Haaland.

At the beginning of June, Klæbo was also awarded a prestigious legend award by the Spanish newspaper Marca.

And in April, the Norwegian made it onto Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list of the world’s most influential people under 30 in the “Sports & Games” category in Europe.
