Finnish ski legend goes viral in the USA
The Finnish legend has become this week’s hot topic in the USA after an influencer described him as “one of the craziest athletes to ever live” and “medically insane” in a social media post.
Finnish cross-country legend Juha Mieto has caught the attention of overseas fans after influencer James Pieratt was impressed by the former star’s incredible physique.
Pieratt, who has more than half a million Instagram followers, presented Mieto as “one of the craziest athletes to ever live.“ He highlighted key facts, including an oxygen uptake that he described as “medically insane.”
“It’s 15 percent higher than Lance Armstrong at the peak of his career,” said Pieratt.
The American also shared Mieto’s personal best in the 10km run, along with his height, weight, shoe size, and hand size.
“He is famous for having enormous hands,” Pieratt added.
Confirms the numbers
Mieto himself does not disagree and confirmed that the figures presented are accurate.
“I think that’s correct. I believe I am special,” the 75-year-old told Ilta-Sanomat.
“In my time, I had the largest lungs in the world, measured in Sweden,” he said.
Mieto’s oxygen uptake was recorded at 89–90 ml/kg/min, which is still slightly lower than Bjørn Dæhlie’s.
