The Finnish Ski Association has named the A national cross-country skiers for the 2023/2024 season.

According to a press release, 17 cross-country skiers selected will be part of the Finnish A National Team for the upcoming season. Eight women and nine men have been named.

“The focus for the upcoming season will be on raising the basic level of athletes, developing characteristics, and the World Cup. The work is aimed at the 2025 World Championships and the 2026 Olympics.”

The press release states that individual solutions have been made for the national team camps according to the needs of the athletes. Iivo Niskanen is not involved in the national team activities during the training season. Eveliina Piippo is involved in the national team activities during the training season but does not participate in the camp.

“For the sprinters, during the camp period, the focus is on doing good competitive training in a group. In addition, they will participate in the roller skiing sprint races in Norway and Sweden in August, where they will face strong international competition. For the men’s and women’s groups of traditional distances, a clear topic for the upcoming season is uphill and improving on it. There will be a lot of steep uphills in the 2025 World Championships in Trondheim and especially in the 2026 Olympics in Val di Fiemme, which we must be better at skiing than before,” says Finnish head coach Teemu Pasanen.
