Jonas Peterson and Sara Tigerström Monfelt are currently putting together the team that will organize the 2027 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun, which is less than two years away. Now, the chiefs of competitions for the three disciplines have been appointed.

For cross-country skiing, Per Lindberg will be the chief of competitions — a familiar name in the Falun organization. He has served as the chief of competitions assistant during World Cup events at Lugnet and has also been a technical delegate at international competitions.

“Per has incredible experience and has been involved in many different events and World Cups. It’s going to be good,” says Jonas Peterson, CEO of the 2027 World Championships in Falun, in a statement.

Per Lindberg also feels confident about the assignment:

“Yes, since I’ve been the chief of competitions assistant since the 2015 World Championships and gained good local experience. That experience is important. Now we will continue working in the way we have had for many years. In addition, we aim to optimize and improve the competitions. We are a strong team that will do this together,” Lindberg tells lokali.se.

The 64-year-old chief of competitions brings extensive experience and will have Mikaela Sundbaum as his assistant. She also has experience as a TD (technical delegate) at international competitions, oversees events in Bruksvallarna, and has previously worked with competitions in Falun.

Lindberg points out that one task that needs to begin quickly is modifying the final section of some courses. On certain stretches, it’s mostly downhill from the course’s highest point to the finish. Athletes who make a move on the “Mördarbacken” (Killer Hill) are not sufficiently rewarded for it.

“Here we have a weak spot in the course design, which FIS (International Ski and Snowboard Federation) has pointed out. We will try to address this as much as possible. We need to find some additional uphill sections so that you can’t just glide to the finish,” he says.

In Nordic Combined, Lars-Erik Eriksson will be responsible for the competitions. He is an international ski jumping judge and served as the technical chief for ski jumping during the 2015 World Championships in Falun.

Per Busk, who was the chief of competitions for Nordic Combined in 2015, will now be responsible for ski jumping. Both Eriksson and Busk are 54 years old.

According to Langd.se, a new aspect compared to the last World Championships in Falun in 2015 is that the three disciplines will now work more closely together. The goal is to build a sort of team service system to enhance the support and service for athletes and coaches.

“Our ambition is to benefit from each other’s experiences and knowledge,” says Per Lindberg.
