Weng forced to skip training camp

Heidi Weng was struggling with a lack of energy, and the Norwegian national team doctor is putting the brakes on it.

Heidi Weng, bursting with motivation and training zeal earlier this spring, has been forced to skip the national team’s training camp in Fredrikstad this week – the 32-year-old Norwegian needs to gather her strength.

“In consultation with the medical team, Heidi Weng has chosen to skip the gathering in Fredrikstad as the strain in recent times has been somewhat high, and she needs to regain her energy,” says team doctor Ove Feragen in a press release on Friday afternoon.

The Norwegian star is also just one of many skiers who are either missing or have returned home from the camp in Fredrikstad, which started on Monday. Mathilde Myhrvold is also missing from the women’s side.

“Mathilde Myhrvold will not be taking part in the meeting in Fredrikstad as she has a slight cold,” says Feragen.

Several of the men are also missing.

Johannes Høsflot Klæbo went home after the first day. On Tuesday evening, it became clear that Even Northug had also returned home from the gathering.

“Even Northug has returned home from the gathering in Fredrikstad due to a cold,” says national team doctor Feragen.

While Northug is struggling with illness, injuries are causing problems for Klæbo.

Although Klæbo will not be taking part in further training with the team during the gathering, he is returning to Fredrikstad to participate in the IDYLL X Craft Run during the Idyll festival.

“I’m traveling back to Fredrikstad to take part in the IDYLL X Craft Run, which is being held on Saturday. Lots of children and lots of sporting fun. I’m looking forward to it. It will be great,” says Klæbo.

The gathering in Fredrikstad started on Monday. This is the Norwegian national team’s second training camp this season.

The gathering lasts until the weekend. On Saturday, the national team athletes will participate in the IDYLL X Craft Run during the Idyll Festival. There will also be a children’s race, where the kids can run alongside the national team athletes.
