Winning the overall Tour de Ski, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo is now the man with the most World Cup victories.

Norway’s Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won four of the six 2022 Tour de Ski stages. While he didn’t win the final stage up Alpe Cermis, Klæbo still posted his 47th FIS World Cup victory at the top of the brutal hill climb, as he earned the overall Tour de Ski title for the second time.

The overall Tour de Ski title counts as a World Cup victory, which makes Klæbo the man with the most World Cup career victories

“It was amazing to reach that milepost on this stage,” Klæbo says after earning his overall Tour de Ski title on Alpe Cermis in Val di Fiemme, Italy, Tuesday afternoon.

How important is Tour de Ski to you?
“Tour de Ski means a lot. It is the second-most prestigious event of the season, after the Olympics. So, my plan was always to do my best to finish the entire Tour de Ski.”

Your grandfather is heavily involved in your training and racing. Do you think he’s happy with your Tour de Ski performance?
“I think my grandpa is content. And I think it will be good for him that I won’t be racing again for a while,” Klæbo says, and explains:

“He’s kind of a worrywart, and he’s always nervous when I’m racing. Now I’ve been racing nearly every day for a week, so it will be good for him to get a break.”

What are your thoughts about the Olympics: Will you race all the cross-country skiing events in Beijing?
“Yes. If it is possible, I will do everything. But I will consult with Arild (Monsen, national team sprint coach, editor’s note) and grandpa before I decide.”

Top 3, Tour de Ski overall, men

2. Alexander Bolshunov, Russia
3. Iivo Niskanen, Finland
