Jizerská50, the seventh stage of the Ski Classics Season XVI, is one of Central Europe’s premier long-distance skiing races and the second Grand Classics event of the season. Who are the favorites?

Jizerská50

Scheduled for Sunday, February 9, 2025, in the picturesque Bedřichov, Czech Republic, Jizerská50 spans 50 kilometers and challenges skiers to demonstrate their endurance and skills. Jizerská50 is the second Grand Classics event of the season, after Marcialonga in January.

To win the Grand Slam, skiers have to win all four Grand Classics skiing races, which nobody has been able to do so far!

Jizerská50 is a race that effortlessly combines the breathtaking landscapes reminiscent of Scandinavian skiing competitions with a distinct European charm, offering the best of both worlds.

Jizerská50 – Top Contenders Men

Andreas Nygaard, Team Ragde Charge: After winning Marcialonga, Nygaard says he feels good and is in great shape. He has won Jizerská50 three times and says he likes the atmosphere of this race and is looking forward to it. After Marcialonga, Nygaard went to the high mountains and was able to train at altitude. He admits he’s focused on the biggest classic races, can handle demanding courses, and has a lot of experience. This makes him a top favorite.

Mathias Aas Rolid, Team Ragde Charge: Rolid is quite new to these big races but has proved his value in Marcialonga by doing big surges and opening space for Nygaard. In the Live Sessions earlier this week, Nygaard revealed that Rolid will lead the charge as team captain for this race, with the team fully committed to helping him reach the top. Rolid said he feels good and confident: “When you feel you can train with the best skiers, you feel you could be like them.” He admits he is stronger in downhills and flat terrain, but since this race has a lot of uphills, we can only expect his teammates to help.

Max Novak, Team Aker Daehlie: Representing Team Aker Daehlie, Max secured an impressive second place at Marcialonga and is more determined than ever to claim victory. In the Live Sessions, Novak said: “I’ve been feeling good. I raced on Saturday and am now doing interval sessions to prepare. I’ve done some good races in Jizerská.” At the moment, Max Novak holds the Yellow bib, and he is one of the top skiers for this race.

Amund Hoel, Team Engcon: Team Engcon is doing a good job this season. Amund Hoel is in good shape, won Bad Gastein ITT, and was on the Engadin La Diagonela and Marcialonga podium. Currently sitting in second place for the Yellow bib overall, he will battle among the best this weekend. Amund has showcased speed and endurance, solidifying his position among the top contenders.
