The Ski Classics Challengers event Tiera Taivalkoski–Syöte Challenger is a 40km classic roller skiing race taking place this Sunday, July 5, in Taivalkoski, Finland.

The Tiera Taivalkoski–Syöte Challenger is a Ski Classics Challengers event in Northern Finland. Now in its third edition, the race also carries Finnish Long-Distance Championship status this year, with titles awarded across the senior, junior, and masters categories.

The race runs from the Tiera Resort in Taivalkoski to the summit of Iso-Syöte, Finland’s southernmost fell. The 40km course features approximately 190 meters of total elevation gain, offering a true summer fitness test in classic roller skiing technique along one of the most challenging road sections in Finland.

The event takes place during Päätalo week and is held alongside the Taivalkoski Trail Run cross-country running competition, creating a full sports weekend in Taivalkoski.

Elite field

The men’s elite race features World Championship sprint medalist Lauri Vuorinen alongside local favorite Lauri Mannila, who represents Taivalkosken Metsä-Veikot and won a medal in the 50km at the Finnish Championships last winter. In the women’s race, a strong team from AT Ski Team will compete for the Finnish Championship medals.

The event also brings together elite and recreational skiers on the same course, with participants starting together with Finland’s top athletes.
