The Ski Classics Challengers event, Klarälvsloppet, is a 90km long-distance roller ski race in classic technique next Sunday, September 21, in Karlstad, Sweden.

On Sunday, September 21, 2025, Klarälvsloppet will take place in Sweden and for another year as a Ski Classics Challengers event.

This year’s event is set to break records in both participation and star power. Nearly 1600 athletes are expected across the roller skiing, running, and cycling distances, marking the largest turnout in the event’s history.

Ski Classics Challengers Klarälvsloppet

Klarälvsloppet, Sweden’s longest roller ski race, takes place in the Värmland countryside along the Klarälven River on a 90km paved course that combines endurance with a unique nature experience.

The roller ski race welcomes both elite and recreational athletes, and the 2025 edition will mark the eighth time the event is held, once again drawing many top Pro Team athletes from the long-distance skiing circuit.

On the elite side, the start lists promise thrilling battles. In the men’s race, Vasaloppet winner Alvar Myhlback will face last year’s Klarälvsloppet champions Max Novak and Petter Stakston. Other big names include Johan Hoel, Emil Persson, Kasper Staadaas, Calle Halfvarsson, and Petter Northug.

The women’s field is equally stacked. Ski Classics Champion Season XVI Anikken Gjerde Alnæs, Klarälvsloppet 2024 runner-up Emilie Fleten, and third-place Jenny Larsson headline the race. Hanna Lodin and Karolina Hedenström will also be aiming for the podium.

In addition to the 90km main race, the Klarälvsloppet weekend also offers 60km and 21km roller ski distances, as well as running and cycling events. The 90km is both a Ski Classics Challengers competition and a seeding race for Vasaloppet.
