Ski Team Göhlins: Reflecting on a strong season and looking ahead to Season XVII
As Ski Classics Season XVI draws to a close, Ski Team Göhlins has proven its resilience, finishing with a remarkable 9th place overall in the Pro Team standings. This achievement marks the culmination of a challenging yet rewarding season, with athletes showcasing both individual progress and team strength across various events.
The Second Part of Season XVI
The second part of the season began with challenges, including harsh weather conditions and the unpredictable terrain of races like Marcialonga. Still, Ski Team Göhlins remained focused, delivering strong performances despite the difficulties.
“The weather was on our side in the early days, allowing us to enjoy and recharge for the race. However, the night before the start, it began to rain, making the race a real challenge for both body and mind,” said the team’s press release about Marcialonga, and added:
“Despite this, our skiers fought valiantly – the results may not have been the highlight of the season, but several solid performances gave us hope for the future. The best in the team was Johannes, who finished in 24th place, making him the 6th best Swedish skier.”
Throughout the season, five athletes from the Ski Team Göhlins earned top-15 finishes in various races, highlighting the depth and talent within the team. Despite the challenging weather, Johannes’ 24th place at Marcialonga was a testament to the team’s grit.
Jizerská50 – A Key Race with Valuable Points
Though the results from Jizerská50 didn’t reflect the team’s usual performance, the event remained important for accumulating points and maintaining their top-10 position in the standings.
“In the Czech Republic, the race became a challenge for Hilda and Johannes, as only the two from the team participated. The results were not top-notch, but they earned important points for the team’s overall position and maintained a top-10 ranking. Next year, we aim to have the whole team in this prestigious race!” the press release shared.
A Weekend to Remember in Orsa Grönklitt – When the Results Clicked
The following weekend, Ski Team Göhlins headed to the double event weekend at Orsa Grönklitt, which, according to the team, marked a turning point in their season as the results began to fall into place.
“Saturday’s 60km in snowfall was a real challenge, but four of our skiers – Johannes, Julia, Elias, and Filip – achieved their best placings so far this season: 15th, 17th, 25th, and 36th place. But it wasn’t just the placings that impressed – on Sunday, Elias delivered a sensational 8th place, just 12.5 seconds from the podium. It is a day to remember for Elias and the entire group of supporters from Gnosjö, who supported throughout the weekend. It was clear that the form was about to show for Vasaloppet.”
Vasaloppet – The Season’s Highlight
Vasaloppet marked a significant turning point for the Ski Team Göhlins. With a reinforced lineup, including new additions Moa Hansson and Leo Johansson, the team’s performance was nothing short of impressive.
Johannes battled through a fall to finish in 18th place, while Elias achieved his personal best with a 21st-place finish. Moa’s outstanding 8th place and Julia’s 16th further solidified the team’s strength, with four athletes finishing within the top 21—a remarkable result.
A Strong Finish in Norway
The season’s final stretch took the Ski Team Göhlins to Norway, where they faced a challenging sequence of events.
“First up was the Birkebeinerrennet between Rena and Lillehammer, a tough 55km race with a lot of altitude. Moa continued to show strength with 10th place. Then the focus shifted to Marcialonga Bodø, which was held in Valdnesfjorden due to a lack of snow. Here, our skiers showed that our material can deliver even under extreme conditions – Johannes finished in 9th place, his best result in two years, and Elias came in 25th, his second-best long-distance race in Ski Classics.”
“The final races in Northern Norway were a testament to the team’s endurance and strength. The Reistadløpet, with its many meters of elevation gain, was a challenge for everyone, but Filip delivered a strong result with 40th place after a tough period. The next day, in the spectacular 60km race along the mountains that plunge into the sea, it was a fantastic end to the season. Johannes fought his way into 11th place, and Julia finished with a fine 15th place.”
Looking Back, Moving Forward
As the curtain falls on a memorable Ski Classics Season XVI, Ski Team Göhlins takes a moment to look back – not only on results and milestones but also on the people and partnerships that made the journey possible. Behind every event and result lies a collective effort driven by dedication, teamwork, and passion.
“We would like to extend a warm thank you to all our partners, supporters, and everyone who has contributed in any way to this season. A special thank you to Simon and Isak, who steer the ship, and Alexander and Kalle, who take care of the skis. Without you, this would not have been possible! We look forward to the next season with even greater ambitions and new challenges. Together we continue to write the history of skiing!”
