Season XIV Kicks Off In Three Weeks!

Winter is starting to make its entry across Europe, and today the official Season XIV calendar video is launched. Ski Classics Pro Tour consists this season of 14 events on 10 event weekends in 6 different countries. Watch the video below.

SKI CLASSICS SEASON XIV OFFICIAL CALENDAR VIDEO

The brand-new season has 5 new events: Bad Gastein PTT and Bad Gastein Criterium in Austria. Grönklitt Criterium and Grönklitt ITT have the same location as last year in Sweden- but with new events and dates. The Ski Classics Final is held in Norway with a brand-new event, Summit 2 Senja.

Ski Classics have, during the years, introduced several new competition formats, and season XIV will, in addition to the regular long-distance races, include a Pro Team Tempo (PTT), two Criteriums, and one Individual Time Trial (ITT). To read more about the rules and the competition formats, visit Ski Classics rules.

Season XIV starts with a new destination in the Pro Tour, Bad Gastein in Austria. The double-events weekend includes a Pro Team Tempo on Saturday, December 10, and a Criterium on Sunday, December 11. The Criterium is a mass start event held in several loops with less than 10km each and classic technique. After Bad Gastein, La Venosta Criterium takes place on Saturday, December 17.

After the holiday break, the Tour returns with another double-events weekend, this time in Italy, with Pustertaler Ski Marathon on Saturday, January 14, and Prato Piazza Mountain Challenge on Sunday, January 15. The latter was voted the best event in Season XII and brings the spectators breathtaking sceneries from the mountain tops.

The following weekend, it’s time for a stop in Switzerland when the 55 km long Engadin La Diagonela takes place on Saturday, January 21. Then, back to Italy for the first Grand Classics event of the season, Marcialonga, on Sunday, January 29, ending the Alp segment of the circuit.

The Pro Tour takes two weekends off before continuing northeast to the second Grand Classics event, Jizerská50, on Sunday, February 12, with the Czech event being the Central/Eastern European stage before heading to Scandinavia.

Sweden awaits another back-to-back weekend in Orsa Grönklitt with Grönklitt Criterium on Saturday, February 18, and Grönklitt ITT on Sunday, February 19. The Individual Time Trial is organized as an individual start competition, and the Pro Tour athletes will face a challenging 15km race.

Then it is time for the last two Grand Classics events, Vasaloppet on Sunday, March 5, and Birkebeinerrennet on Saturday, March 18. The final weekend of Ski Classics is composed by Reistadløpet on Saturday, April 1, and the brand-new Summit 2 Senja on Sunday, April 2, concluding the Ski Classics Season XIV.

Iconic Climbs

The new addition to Season XIV is the Iconic Climbs, giving an extra dimension and more points to the winner of the most challenging climbs in Ski Classics.

Season XIV, there will be four Iconic Climbs, two in the Alps part of the Tour (Prato Piazza Mountain Challenge and Cascata at Marcialonga) and two in Scandinavia (Raudfjellet at Birkebeinerrennet and Orta at Reistadløpet).
