He has won Vasaloppet, Marcialonga, and several of the biggest long-distance ski races. He is one of the Legends of Ski Classics. But the victory he celebrated this summer is the greatest of his life.

Andreas Nygaard finally married Anna-Elisabeth Liljedal. He proposed on the ski tracks already on New Year’s Eve 2023, but it took some time before the wedding took place.

The 34-year-old Nygaard tied the knot with Anna-Elisabeth at the well-known pier hotel Kjerringøy outside Bodø, famous from the TV show “Every Time We Meet.”

His best man was his brother Bjørn Thomas Nygaard, and among the guests were well-known skiing names such as Jørgen and Anders Aukland, Kasper Stadaas, and Finn Hågen Krogh.

“It was a wonderful weekend. My greatest victory in life so far,” Andreas Nygaard told Framtid i Nord.

Now he is in the middle of a tough training period with Team Ragde Charge. But he doesn’t have much left to prove. Nygaard has won the Ski Classics overall three times, and with Vasaloppet, Marcialonga, and Birkebeinerrennet on his résumé, few can match him.

The newlyweds have already returned from their honeymoon to Svalbard. Before the wedding, Andreas had to go through a bachelor party, but his ski friends made sure to plan it the same weekend as the Midnight Sun Marathon in Tromsø so the groom could participate there as well.

The couple has been living in Oslo since the fall of 2022, but Andreas Nygaard was born in Sandnessjøen and grew up in Talvik in Alta municipality. He later moved to Burfjord when he started secondary school. It was with Burfjord IL that he first made a name for himself on the national ski scene with an impressive relay performance at the Norwegian Championships.

From Burfjord, he moved to Tromsø, and in due course, Andreas Nygaard is expected to complete his medical studies.

But before that, he will surely win more Ski Classics events.
