Marcialonga Bodø

Bodø appointed the cultural capital of Europe in 2024, is one of the fastest-growing cities in Norway and has all the urban qualities one could wish for in a big city. Yet, breathtaking mountains surround it, and a clear Arctic Sea is nearby, creating a ski race out of the ordinary – a mix of urbanity and stunning coastal nature.

With a 50-kilometer course, the race starts amidst high-rise buildings and traffic at Bodø City Hall, winds through the enchanting Bodø forest, ascends to a panoramic viewpoint of the city, and returns to the city center.

Skiers and viewers will be able to enjoy the view of the legendary Lofoten Islands, the majestic Børvasstindan – and they might even get a glimpse of Saltstraumen, the strongest maelstrom in the world, on their epic journey in the Arctic landscape.

The center of the race is Rådhusparken in Bodø Center, representing a unique opportunity to stage a compact event, virtually negating the need for shuttle buses or other transport modes. The athletes can walk from the city hotels, the airport, and the railroad station to the start- and finish line. The central location also means easy access for the spectators to join the Ski Festival. In its inaugural year, several thousand spectators joined the event in the middle of Bodø and enjoyed the sports, local gastronomy, and local music in the park.
