König Ludwig Lauf, a Ski Classics Challengers event planned to take place in Oberammergau, Germany, on February 2, 2025, is now canceled due to adverse weather and snow conditions.

The 45km long König Ludwig Lauf takes place annually in the beautiful landscape of Ammergau Alps, Bavaria, Germany, but due to adverse weather and snow conditions, it had to be canceled for 2025.

The Local Organizing Committee released a notice about the cancelation on their official website:

Dear Participants,

It is with a heavy heart and deep regret that we must share the news with you today that causes us immense sorrow: The König Ludwig Lauf 2025 cannot take place again this year due to the adverse and persistently critical weather conditions.

The weather has once again shown us our limits this year. Heavy rainfall and strong storms have caused severe damage to our tracks.

Even our contingency plans – shortened 10km loops – cannot be implemented under these conditions. Safety is our top priority, and icy surfaces simply do not allow for a safe public run.

The König Ludwig Lauf represents more than just a race. It is synonymous with tradition, Bavarian charm, exceptional organization, and the breathtaking scenery of the Ammergau Alps Nature Park. We want to preserve this unique spirit and not force an event that fails to meet these standards.

This decision is not only an emotional blow for us as the organizing team but also an economic one, with consequences that are difficult to predict. Three-quarters of the event’s expenditures have already been incurred for the second year in a row, and the hundreds of hours of volunteer work invested in planning the race feel lost in the face of these uncertainties.

Your registration fees will automatically be carried over to the next event. If this is not acceptable to you, we will provide a form on our website starting February 7, 2025, where you can request a refund of your registration fee, minus administrative costs and the expenses already incurred. Alternatively, we kindly ask you to consider donating your registration fee – as the survival of the event hangs in the balance after two consecutive cancellations.

Despite these challenging times, we remain hopeful and determined as we look to the future. We are tirelessly working to ensure that the König Ludwig Lauf continues to thrive.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your understanding, support, and loyalty. Without you, the König Ludwig Lauf would not be what it is – a unique event that has inspired generations of runners.

Warm regards from the Ammergau Alps Nature Park,

Your

König Ludwig Lauf Team”
