ENGADIN LA DIAGONELA – MEN’S RACE

In the men’s race, which started at 9:55 CET, the action started right from the start. At the first Sprint checkpoint of the day in Samedan, 5.5km into the race, Anton Persson, Team Ramudden, crossed first, followed by Simen Ramstad, Team Kaffebryggeriet DRIV, and Vebjørn Moen, Team Eksjöhus.

With about 33km to go, Team Mäenpää, with Juuso Mäkelä, and Team Eksjöhus, with Morten Eide Pedersen, were at the front controlling the pace but with no decisive move earlier in the race.

A few kilometers later, with 12.8km into the race, a big group of about 50 skiers was in front, already preparing for the second and last Sprint checkpoint, 21.9km into the race at Piste 21.

The Sprint at Piste 21 saw fast man Vebjørn Moen, Team Eksjöhus, taking the most points, followed by Simen Ramstad, Team Kaffebryggeriet DRIV, and Anton Persson, Team Ramudden.

Right after the Sprint, Team Ragde Charge with Mathias Aas Rolid tried his chances, reached the front and stretched the field, but the big group behind was controlling all the moves.

At the 33.2km mark, 41 skiers were still strong in the front, with the second group railing about 1 minute behind.

With about 7km to go, Amund Hoel, Team Engcon, was on the offensive at the front, setting the pace and trying to reduce the leader’s group. With 3km to go, Max Novak upped the pace with Team Engcon skiers also on the front, but no moves succeeded.

With 1.5km to go, the final climb to the finish line started and the leading group was still compact and fighting for positions.

In the end, Amund Riege, Team Ramudden, had an impressive sprint and won his second Pro Tour event Season XVI. Riege was followed by Johan Hoel, Team Ragde Charge, 0.4 seconds back. Amund Hoel, Team Engcon, completed the podium in the third position, 0.9 seconds behind the winner.
