Bjursås Hill Climb: Myhlback and Halfvarsson set for hometown duel
Lager 157 Ski Team organizes the Bjursås Hill Climb on Tuesday, August 25, staged in support of Barncancerfonden (the Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund).
Ski Classics star and youngest Vasaloppet champion in history, Alvar Myhlback, faces 37-year-old World Cup veteran Calle Halfvarsson in a duel. Wsportsmedia opens up SC Play to watch the event for free.
On Tuesday, August 25, Lager 157 Ski Team hosts the Bjursås Hill Climb, a roller ski uphill race in Dalarna, in partnership with Barncancerfonden (the Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund). Wsportsmedia holds the global streaming rights.
The race brings together 20-year-old Alvar Myhlback, the youngest-ever Vasaloppet champion and one of Swedish skiing’s biggest names, and 37-year-old World Cup veteran Calle Halfvarsson, in a true hometown duel: Myhlback grew up in Bjursås, while Halfvarsson comes from Sågmyra, part of the greater Bjursås community.
The race is part of Lager 157’s “Double Poling Hill Climb” concept, previously held in Grönklitt, and returns now that the team is holding its first training camp in Bjursås.
“We wanted to bring some roller-ski excitement to Bjursås now that we’re holding our first training camp in Alvar’s home village. It’s a relaxed, training-style race, the kind of thing we love doing together with recreational skiers and young athletes,” says Anton Järnberg, Pro Team Director at Lager 157 Ski Team.
How to watch
As a special opening for this event, the feed will be free and open to everyone on SC Play, with broadcast starting at 18:20 CEST on Tuesday, August 25. SC Play is available on web, Android, iOS, and Apple TV.
“We are glad to open up our streaming platform SC Play for such a good cause as Barncancerfonden. Even more thrilling is that it is an exciting event to follow,” says David Nilsson, CEO, Wsportsmedia.

Racing for a cause
The Bjursås Hill Climb is staged in partnership with Barncancerfonden (the Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund). Lager157 Ski Team has fundraised for the organization since 2021, when it took over the “tandem skis” from Bjarne and Lasse, two skiers who rode tandem in the Vasaloppet over 20 times to raise money for the cause. The team has continued fielding tandem pairs at Vasaloppet each year since.
Entry to Tuesday’s race is a voluntary donation to the fundraiser. Prize money in both the men’s and women’s classes will be split between the winner and Barncancerfonden.
“Every year we raise money for Barncancerfonden through the tandem skis at Vasaloppet, but this year we wanted to start earlier, so we’re kicking off the fundraiser already with Tuesday’s race,” Järnberg says.
