The International Biathlon Union continues to deny Russian athletes entry into biathlon competitions. This decision comes as a direct response to the IOC’s ruling the previous day, which lifted the suspension on Russian athletes.

Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the IBU suspended the biathlon federations from both Russia and Belarus, preventing their athletes from participating in international events.

“The IBU has taken note of the IOC’s decision regarding its recommendations to international federations concerning the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions,” the biathlon federation stated in a message to Reuters.

At the same time, the IBU emphasized to the news agency that its position remains unchanged, and the decision from 2022 still stands. The International Athletics Federation has also not lifted the suspension on Russian athletes, according to VG.

However, several other federations have recently eased restrictions on Russian athletes. The International Gymnastics Federation has lifted restrictions, while the International Skating Union announced this week that Russian and Belarusian athletes will be allowed to compete again as neutrals starting from the 2026/2027 season.
