The Swedish Biathlon Association has named its A-national biathlon team for the 2025/2026 season.

The Swedish Biathlon Association has named its A-national biathlon team for the 2025/2026 season.

According to a press release from the Swedish Biathlon Association, the A-national biathlon team for the 2025/2026 season has now been selected.

Anna-Maria Uusitalo, the Sports Director of the Swedish Biathlon Association, says in the press release:

“We have a team with both breadth and top quality, with athletes who have already shown that they can compete at the world’s highest level. This gives us a strong foundation heading into the upcoming Olympic season.”

The A-team consists of 14 athletes, with the biggest news being Johanna Skottheim’s return to the A-team after a year of training with Team Östersund and pursuing her own path.

Skottheim shares her excitement:

“It feels so incredibly fun to be back in the A-national team again! I had a really good competition season this past winter, and to now step back into this environment feels both inspiring and motivating. I’m really looking forward to sharing everyday life with the team, pushing each other, and developing together. This feels like a really good step forward.”

The past season brought major success for the Swedish Biathlon Team:

  • 31 World Cup podiums
  • Four World Championship medals, including Elvira Öberg’s individual gold in the mass start
  • Four European Championship medals, where Anna-Karin Heijdenberg achieved a full set (gold, silver, and bronze)
  • At the Junior World Championships, Sara Andersson won a silver in the sprint and a gold in the mass start, alongside several other strong performances signaling a bright future.

Uusitalo adds:

“It’s a real strength that we achieved our goals of taking at least one medal at every international championship. It shows that we have great quality at the top, but also a broad squad that delivers across multiple fronts.”

Head Coach Johannes Lukas comments on the new A-Team:

“We had a strong season where we took big steps together as a team — both in terms of results and daily work. The athletes on this year’s team know each other well and have shown that they can drive each other forward, creating a positive and developing environment. I’m really looking forward to building from this level.”

One notable change is that Emil Nykvist, part of the A-team for the past two years, will not be part of the group this year. This decision was made in agreement with the national team management, as Nykvist has chosen to continue his career independently.

The A-team will kick off the new training season with a camp in Crete, Greece, from May 10 to 17, in collaboration with the Swedish Olympic Committee.
