Lægreid switches brand – Strømsheim: “Thanks for the golden skis!”
When Sturla Holm Lægreid switches to Fischer, it’s not just a change – it’s a gift package to the rival who snatched the World Championships gold from him this winter. Now, the 27-year-old politely thanks him for the delivery.
Earlier this spring, it was announced that World Cup overall winner Sturla Holm Lægreid is switching to Fischer. The 28-year-old from Norway says the security of having the world’s largest manufacturer behind him, along with access to the ski fleet left by the Bø brothers, was decisive for the change.
“It’s more about the security with Fischer as a larger producer. And the feeling I get when skiing with both Fischer boots and skis,” he told TV2.

Competitors continuing with Madshus are not upset about Lægreid changing ski brands.
Because the fact is, the World Cup winner is now leaving behind a solid fleet of skis. And this benefits, among others, this winter’s double world champion, Endre Strømsheim.
“It means I have access to even more great skis, so that’s awesome,” says the 27-year-old who denied Lægreid the World Championships gold in the mass start this winter.
Has won gold on Lægreid’s skis
Strømsheim told Langrenn.com that he won races on Lægreid’s skis this winter.
“It’s like everyone wants the fastest skis to be used, so that’s how it works in the waxing trailer,” he said.
Has never been faster
Strømsheim switched from Fischer to Madshus ahead of the 2023/2024 season and hasn’t looked back.
Since that transition, he has achieved six individual World Cup podiums, including two victories.
This winter, Strømsheim became a double world champion at the World Championships in Lenzerheide: First in the relay, where he opened for Norway and was by far the fastest skier. The next day, he won the mass start and took gold ahead of none other than Lægreid and Johannes Thingnes Bø.
In addition to Strømsheim, other athletes using Madshus equipment include newcomer to the elite national team Vebjørn Sørum, national recruit team skier Johan-Olav Botn, comeback star Sivert Guttorm Bakken, and Vetle Rype Paulsen. French biathlon star Emilien Jacquelin, who joined Madshus last spring, is also part of the group.
The X-factor
During the 2024 European Championships, Madshus unveiled the new Skate-X binding system – a unique skate skiing binding where the boot is attached under the ball of the foot instead of in front.
World Cup athletes have been using the new binding system for the past two seasons, but the 2024 European and World Championships in biathlon were the first major championships with it. They are in no doubt:
“I think it works very well. It gives more power at the end of the push and better ski glide. My skiing speed is better than ever,” Strømsheim told Langrenn.com.
Independent third-party analyses also support the athletes’ experience.
In April, the Skate-X system won the Product of the Year award at the Design Industry Conference, the prestigious industry day organized by the Norwegian Design Industry Association. Madshus developed the unique binding system in collaboration with Rottefella.
