The Czech Biathlon has unveiled its national teams for the upcoming 2025/2026 Olympic season, featuring a streamlined A-Team, a rejuvenated B-Team, and a broader Academy setup focused on long-term athlete development.

Focused A-Team & Olympic Ambitions

Six men and four women form the Czech A-Team for the 2025/2026 season. The selection reflects a strategic narrowing of focus, aligning with preparations for the Winter Olympic Games.

The men’s A team for the upcoming season includes Petr Hák, Vítězslav Hornig, Michal Krčmář, Jonáš Mareček, Tomáš Mikyska, and Adam Václavík. The women’s squad includes Olympic medalist Markéta Davidová, Tereza Voborníková, Jessica Jislová, and Lucie Charvátová.

“We are continuing with the preparation model established last year. Everything is geared toward the Olympics, which is why we’ve decided to narrow the teams — to maximize individual work with each athlete,” explains Ondřej Rybář, Sports Director of Czech Biathlon, in a press release.

Changes In Coaching Staff

There are also notable updates to the coaching lineup. Italian coach Luca Bormolini departs his role with the women’s team for personal reasons.

“We fully respect Luca’s decision and thank him for his work with Czech Biathlon,” says Rybář.

Jakub Procházka joins Lukáš Dostál in leading the women’s team. A former junior national athlete and coach in both the Czech Republic and Canada, Procházka will focus on technical skills, strength, and conditioning.

The men’s team continues under the experienced duo of Michael Málek and Ondřej Moravec, with Norwegian technique expert Per-Øyvind Torvik remaining on staff.

Younger Athletes Strengthen B-Team

Following changes by the International Biathlon Union that reduce the age range for juniors, the Czech Federation has revamped its B-Team to aid in the transition from junior to senior racing.

“We’ve created a young B-Team to help bridge the gap. This team will primarily compete in the IBU Cup, preparing for the World Cup — just like the top nations do,” says Rybář.

The former junior national coaches, Jan Burian and Jindřich Šikola, will now lead the men’s and women’s B-Teams, respectively, continuing their development work with the same group of athletes.

Expanding the Academy & National Base

The Academy Team, led by coach Zdeněk Vítek, provides a path for athletes transitioning out of the junior ranks or those just shy of making the B-Team.

“These are athletes who might need another one or two years to mature. This setup improves domestic competition quality and gives them the environment to grow. That’s why we’ve been building this team for two years,” explains Rybář.

Additionally, youth and junior athletes will continue training in regional Sports Centers, with monthly joint training camps. This model ensures ongoing development even for those not yet selected for the national squads.

Training Begins In Norway

The Czech teams are currently training in Meråker, Norway, taking advantage of favorable snow conditions. Notably, Markéta Davidová is absent as she recovers from a recent herniated disc surgery. Michal Krčmář has opted to begin his preparation individually.

New additions Kristýna Otcovská and Mikuláš Karlík have joined the A-Team for this initial camp.
