He is the relay specialist with a World Championship gold from 2024 and an Olympic bronze from 2026. But this summer has been tough. His rehabilitation after a cycling accident has not gone as well as he hoped.

The 27-year-old Viktor Brandt has not had an easy path to the top in biathlon. Just a month ago, misfortune struck again.

“A month ago I crashed unluckily during a cycling session and got a concussion. The recovery has unfortunately taken considerably longer than I hoped. Sad and frustrating, but hopefully I will be back on track soon,” the Swede from Värmland wrote on Instagram.

He also summarized his situation with the following:

  • Lucky I had a helmet.
  • Yes, the bike survived. (Thanks to everyone who asked.)
  • My collection of scars is growing.

The Swedish biathlon team does not have the same depth as the Norwegian team. Therefore, Viktor Brandt is a crucial asset, especially in relays, where he has become somewhat of a specialist in the opening legs.

In 2024, Sweden won the World Championship in Nove Mesto na Morave. Brandt exchanged with Jesper Nelin, followed by Martin Ponsiluoma and Sebastian Samuelsson. This led to an Olympic bronze in Anterselva last winter, finishing behind France and Norway.

Individually, Viktor Brandt’s best result in the World Cup is a 9th place in the pursuit at Holmenkollen in 2025. This winter, he was part of the winning team in the mixed relay at the test World Championships in Otepää, alongside Martin Ponsiluoma, Anna-Karin Heijdenberg, and Elvira Ă–berg.
