Biathlete’s body found – now set to be recovered
The German biathlon star died during an expedition in the Karakoram mountains in Pakistan on July 28. Her body was located in a very difficult-to-reach place, and it was initially decided that it should not be moved. Now, however, efforts are being made to go against her last wish and attempt to recover the body.
31-year-old Laura Dahlmeier had left written instructions stating that no rescue attempt should be made if it endangered other people’s safety.

According to German newspaper Bild, the body has now been located in the Karakoram mountains, and an attempt will be made to retrieve it.
“As experienced mountaineers, we decided she should remain where she died. That was her wish,” said mountaineer Thomas Huber after the accident. He was part of the rescue team.
Nevertheless, attempts will now be made to bring the body of the former biathlon star. Pakistani mountain guide Kaleem Shani, who works for the organization Shipton Tours, the company Dahlmeier traveled with, told Bild about the planned recovery.
Dahlmeier was struck by a falling rock while climbing Laila Peak. After her biathlon career, she worked as an expert commentator for German TV, but she was also an avid mountaineer with experience from several previous expeditions.
