Injuries controlled everything: “A new situation”
For several years, injuries dictated everything. Now the Swedish star finds herself in a completely new situation.
After years of injuries and setbacks, Linn Svahn is embarking on her first season completely healthy.
“It will be a new situation to only adapt to how much I can tolerate and not how much a body part can tolerate,” the Swedish ski star told SVT.
Five years of struggles
Despite being only 26, Svahn has already faced more serious injuries than many experience throughout their entire careers.
Initially, Svahn dealt with a persistent shoulder injury she sustained before the 2021 World Championships. This resulted in multiple surgeries and cost her both the 2022 Olympics and most of the following season. Then, she fell during training the day before the World Championship sprint in Trondheim last year, and the concussion from that fall sidelined her for several months. Challenges also marked her journey to Olympic gold in the sprint last winter.
“No injuries from either the shoulder or concussion or anything else,“ she says.
For Svahn, this feels unusual.
“It will be a new situation and just adapt to how much I can tolerate and not how much a body part takes,” she says.
Seeing injuries as a strength
Svahn is not sure if she has ever been as healthy and injury-free as she is now, and she is enjoying it. However, she also believes that her injuries have not only been a curse.
“I think the injury periods I’ve had have been beneficial for me,” she says, elaborating further.
“That I’ve been able to try other things and sort of find some middle ground on how to move forward. Then I don’t think you’ll get better from an injury, but I still think it can be useful to learn that path sometimes.“
