The ski star has entered a unique agreement with one of Norway’s key organizers, committing to participate for the next three years.

The agreement between Johannes Høsflot Klæbo and Toppidrettsveka means that the ski star commits to participating in Toppidrettsveka at least through 2028. 

Crucial part of pre-season preparation

Klæbo views the agreement as a win-win, particularly for his own pre-season training.

Toppidrettsveka is one of only two international summer ski festivals in Norway. It is among the most prestigious in the world and annually attracts a field of competitors at the World Cup level.

“For me, Toppidrettsveka is a great and important part of the training period leading up to the ski season. It’s also important to compete a bit to assess my status,” Klæbo said.

“Toppidrettsveka is a wonderful tradition that I greatly appreciate. Not only is it enjoyable to participate, but it also serves as excellent marketing for a region I have a close relationship with. Aure, Hitra, and Trondheim are fantastic places, so there’s every reason to show up at the upcoming Toppidrettsveka.”

For the organizers, the agreement is invaluable.

“This (agreement) means that the world’s best cross-country skier will be a central part of the event in the coming years, to the delight of the audience, partners and everyone who loves cross-country skiing,” Toppidrettsveka stated on their website and added:

“Johannes is the world’s best skier and a fantastic ambassador for the sport. By signing a three-year agreement with him today, we at Toppidrettsveka give a strong foundation to develop the event further and create even greater experiences for the audience.”

Four races in three days

This year, Toppidrettsveka will take place from August 21 to 23. 

The race weekend kicks off with a long-distance event in Hitra on August 21, continues with two competitions in Aure the following day, and concludes with a pursuit start finale in downtown Trondheim. 

It is now Klæbo’s former national team colleague, Didrik Tønseth, who is responsible for both Toppidrettsveka and the World Cup in Trondheim. Tønseth took the job after retiring from his active career in April.
