Ski executive steps down, takes new position a week later
Last week, he stepped down abruptly. Now, just over a week later, he returns to a new top position.
On June 5, Urs Lehmann resigned as CEO of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS). He had held the newly created position for less than a year.
Now, less than two weeks later, the Swiss national is back in a nearly identical role: as the acting Secretary General of FIS.

The reason for Urs Lehmann’s sudden resignation after only ten months was ongoing and escalating conflicts with the controversial president, Johan Eliasch.
However, at the FIS Congress last week, the Swedish-British millionaire had to step down. Eliasch lost the presidential election by a single vote to Alexander Ospelt from Liechtenstein. It was also revealed that Secretary General Michael Vion resigned from his position.

To restructure the Federation
By March 2027, FIS will begin the search for a new Secretary General. For this process, they will hire external headhunting consultants.
The FIS board has also decided to establish a working group to review the entire organizational structure to determine if the statutes need to be amended. This group will incorporate the recommendations presented by members at the FIS Congress in Belgrade on June 11-12, 2026.
The newly elected FIS president and board also agreed to set up another working group to analyze FIS’s financial situation. This group has been tasked with proposing measures for how the finances should be structured in the future.
