“I finally see light at the end of the tunnel”
The Norwegian biathlon star, Karoline Knotten, shares updates following a dramatic spring.
The 31-year-old from Lillehammer is back on the Norwegian national team after a season focused on personal training, but her return had a more dramatic start than expected.
Just before the May 17th weekend, Karoline Knotten was hospitalized with a ruptured and infected appendix. The following week, she learned that it could take up to eight weeks before she could have surgery. After the procedure, it would take another three weeks before she could return to normal training.
The biathlon star did not have to wait eight weeks for surgery. Now, nearly two weeks post-operation, Knotten is optimistic about returning to full training soon.
“I am in full recovery mode,” she writes on social media.

A year of fear and pain
Knotten shares that it has been a long and challenging period.
“From the first time I felt the pain in June last year, where frustration, uncertainty and pain came and went through autumn and winter, I finally see light at the end of the tunnel,” she says.

Must be patient
At the same time, Knotten is clear that she still needs to hold back before she can resume training at the same level as before.
“Now the biggest challenge is to be patient in the next few weeks, even if your legs are tingling and motivation and desire to train fully again is great! Now my eyes are pointed ahead, and I am gathering all the motivation until the body is ready and I can start working properly for the new season.”
