He missed the World Championships and flopped at the Olympics. While results are lacking, hundreds of thousands of Euros keep rolling in. Now he’s changing everything ahead of the World Championships in Falun.

Results on the ski track have been dismal, yet hundreds of thousands of Euros are flowing in for Iivo Niskanen.

Last year, the Finnish ski star’s company reported a revenue of €732,560, with a net profit of €467,307, according to the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti.

Over the past few years, his company has earned over two million euros in equity. Niskanen himself has withdrawn just under €700,000 during this period, including €160,000 last year.

Niskanen is achieving remarkable commercial success, but his performance on the track has been challenging.

Going all in for the World Championships in Falun

Last year, Niskanen missed the entire World Championships in Trondheim due to illness. This year, he competed in the Olympics in Italy while battling a virus, returning home with a disappointing 17th place in the skiathlon as his best result.

Now, Niskanen is turning everything around and going all in for redemption at the World Championships in Falun.

Earlier this spring, it was announced that Niskanen would return to the national team after several seasons of private training. The veteran has been training alone for the past few years, only joining the national team for World Cup events and championships.

Now, things will be different.

Changing everything

This spring, the Finnish national team replaced its entire coaching staff. Now, Swedish coach Joakim Abrahamsson and the Norwegian success coach Hans Kristian Stadheim are in charge. Just days later, Niskanen announced that he is returning to the national team.

“I see that he (Abrahamsson) has a lot of experience,” said the Finnish ski star, elaborating.

“I feel that Joakim is interested in analyzing and contributing to developing technique, and he can bring something new and different to the table.”

Shortly after, Niskanen announced that he is parting ways with his entire ski fleet. The ski star is ending his six-year collaboration with Fischer.
